Friar Paul Joseph Langevin OFM Conv. was elected the 14th Minister Provincial of St. Bonaventure Province on January 31, 2022 on the 3rd mail-in ballot. Friar Paul was born on October 17, 1964 in Toledo, Ohio, one of six children of Margaret and (the late) Thomas Langevin. He received his Bachelor of Arts from Bowling Green State University in Ohio and his Master of Social Work from the University of Michigan. Before entering the Conventual Franciscan Order, Friar Paul worked as a Clinical Social Worker for almost 20 years.
Friar Paul entered the Province of St. Bonaventure as a Postulant in 2008. He professed Temporary Vows on July 16, 2010 and Solemn Vows on August 13, 2013. He completed his theological studies at Sacred Heart Seminary in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and was ordained to the Diaconate on November 16, 2013 and to the Priesthood on May 24, 2014. Following ordination, Friar Paul served as Parochial Vicar of Holy Family Parish in Peoria, Illinois and, later, as Parochial Vicar of the Basilica of St. Josaphat in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. At the Ordinary Provincial Chapter of 2018, he was elected to the Definitory of St. Bonaventure Province. Since 2018, Friar Paul has served as Pastor and Guardian of Holy Family Parish and Friary in Peoria, Illinois. He has also served as the Chair of the Province’s Safe Environment Commission since 2014.
